Jewelry Project – Half Dollar Ring

This is the 4th ring I’ve tried making out of a coin and the first with a half dollar. For this test I used a polished face hammer along the edge. Each photo was taken between annealing.

After the ring had a uniform interior, it was sized using a ring stretcher and the tapered material of the center of the ring was removed and cleaned.

I will do a follow-up test piece with a mallet for forming to compare the final edge quality, and I will remove less material during the finishing stages.

Second round of rings made with a mallet instead of a steel hammer.

I did 2 at the same time to compare processes, and to show amount of material removed in finishing.
